From your hotel in Otavalo, you will be brought in private transportation to the local community near the Cotacachi village. Your guide will be waiting for you here with the horses, ready to begin the adventure. From here you will head to the famous Cuicocha lake. Along the way you will pass by indigenous communities, which allows you to catch a glimpse of their rural lifestyle while enjoying the Andean landscape. At the Cuicocha crater lake, you’ll have time to rest and have lunch in a restaurant that looks out over the lake. The Cuicocha lake rests inside the Cotacachi volcano that erupted about 3100 years ago. Because of this eruption and those of other nearby volcanoes (Imbabura, Mojanda and Cayambe), the whole area that surrounds Otavalo contains particularly fertile soil. After this visit, you will ride back in the direction of Cotacachi, where you will pay a short visit to this small town famous for its leather goods, before heading back to the nearby community. In the afternoon you will be brought back to your hotel in Otavalo.
